A final draft of what the USS Horne Plaque
will look like.
THANKS TO ALL THE DONORS FOR RAISING MORE THAN $4,000.
The
USS Horne is getting a commemorative
plaque to be displayed at the US Navy Memorial in
Washington DC on the Plaque Wall. The wall
is viewed by thousands of visitors who come into the Naval Heritage
Center each year or on line at www.navymemorial.org. The
Horne plaque will serve as a
permanent tribute to
Horne and her crew while also supporting the mission
of the Navy Memorial. The donation necessary for Horne to receive the plaque was $3,000. Larry "Pappy" LeBoeuf (OS2 in Horne 71-72) started raising money for the plaque on the Horne Facebook Page and after a few weeks, more than $4,000 was collected and donated to the US Navy Memorial USS Horne Plaque Fund. Any amount raised over the $3,000 will be applied toward the dedication ceremony at the US Navy Memorial in Washington DC which is tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2017. We already have enough for the Horne plaque, but if you'd like to donate to the US Navy Memorial, see below. Any additional donations made in Horne's name will be applied toward our dedication ceremony. Donating is easy. You simply visit the US Navy Memorial Webpage by CLICKING HERE. You will be taken to a page that looks like the one shown below. Under the first pull-down menu, circled in Red Below, select Plaque. In the next field, circled in Blue below, write, USS Horne. Then make your donation by filling out the rest of the form. We'll keep track of how much money is raised and post updates here and on the USS Horne Facebook Page. Thank you very much for your donation to the USS Horne Commemorative Plaque Fund. |
